The Dresdner Heide, an extensive forest area, is Dresden's most important local recreation area and is also used for forestry purposes.

The green lung of the city

The Dresden Heath, once the border of the Slavic tribes, was first mentioned in 1279 and belonged to the Wettin dynasty from 1372. In 1601, a spider-shaped system of hunting trails was created with the Saugarten as the center, which was used by Augustus the Strong for hunting. The Dresdner Heide was incorporated as a district in 1949.

The Dresdner Heide is home to natural monuments and hiking trails that make it a popular recreational area.
